The app looks for nearby devices. When prompted, select the camera model you have as the device you want to set up. Choose the home you want to add your camera to, or select Add another home to create a new one.
Play a live stream from a camera to selected media player. Requires stream integration to be set up. If your camera supports it, and the stream integration is setup, you will be able to stream your cameras in the frontend and on supported media players. If you want to connect the cameras under the NVR to the Google home, please plug the PoE NVR and the PoE switch to the same router via Ethernet cable. Then plug the PoE cameras into the PoE switch. In this kind of connection, you will able to add the camera to the app separately and connect to the google home.

Live video from wired Nest cameras and doorbells stops after 12 hours. Follow the steps to set a nickname for these devices and add them to a room. To control your devices more easily, assign them to a room in a home. You can create a new home, create a new room, or add your devices to an existing room. You can add each device to one room only. This will allow you to push an IP camera to the chromecast via google home.
Now homeassistant will run and discover your devices such as your Chromecasts and whatever else, it will open up your browser as well. Make note of the port in the URL. You'll need to port forward that on your router. If your camera is battery powered, recharge it when the battery is low. You should also make sure it’s seated correctly on its stand when you remount it.

If you are content with 1080 which I am not. It's decent for seeing a person at your door but if you want to grab a license plate of a perp, it won't cut it unless they pull RIGHT up to the camera. Edit- regarding SSL...yes you can enable it via the configuration.yaml I believe.
Cast live video to your TV with your voice, from your Nest camera, or other compatible security camera. Use a Google Nest or Home speaker or display, and Chromecast or TV with Chromecast built-in. After you connect your smart devices in the Google Home app, you can use the Google Home app to control them. If you have a Google Nest or Home speaker or display, you can also use voice commands to control your smart devices.
Step 4. Use voice commands to stream your security camera to your TV
Things like the Wi-Fi connection and the video quality can also be reduced when there isn’t enough power. In the top right corner of the app home screen, tap Settings. Depending on which camera model you have, use either the Google Home app or Nest app to set it up. Download the one you need from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. Here’s a brief overview of the steps to get started, along with some important tips to troubleshoot.
It's unfortunate that Google doesn't support rtsp or rtmp streams directly. It's an artifact of chrome cast being nothing more than a chrome browser paired with a control protocol, but fire stick sports it. Basically, because it's significantly cheaper to not go the smart cam route when existing cams can do the same thing with a little know-how. I do this exact thing on my Shield TV. I ask Google to check the front door which is a shortcut to trigger autovoice. Then Autovoice on my shield triggers tasker which runs my harmony activity for android tv and starts tiny cam. Works really well.
Make a .mp4 recording from a camera stream. Once loaded, the camera platform will expose services that can be called to perform various actions. Ensure your Lorex device is powered on and connected to the Internet. Connect the Wi-Fi network you would like to use with your Chromecast, then you can customize a room name, which will be added to your room list. If the current camera firmware is not compatible with Google Home, please go to Download Centerupgrading to the latest firmware. Any suggestions or recommendations?
Yes, going direct to the stream of the camera would be simpler if you are just using one camera and it has an accessible mjpg stream...I should have mentioned that. I have 2 cameras for the front of my house, so I use a grouped camera stream from Blueiris. Entity_id is the name of your cast device as seen by homeassistant.
If a person had a Synology diskstation, the cameras could record to it and I assume no need to have an NVR also? This is too advanced for me, sorry that I couldn't help. I'll stick with my Reolink cameras and their easy to use app. The Preload stream option will start the camera feed on Home Assistant startup and continue to keep the stream alive. This will result in reduced latency when opening the stream in the frontend, as well as when using the play_stream service or Google Assistant integration. It does, however, utilize more resources on your machine, so it is recommended to check CPU usage if you plan to use this feature.
Check on what matters by streaming your compatible security or doorbell camera on your Google Nest display. I'm not a tech guy. I do want to learn more. I was curious so I went to YouTube. There's several videos about connecting some Reolink cameras to Synology and also comparing Synology to Blue Iris. The Synology site claims to support many IP camera brands.
Also the new 0.56 release of HASS has the new google home component added. This will let you ask GH to do things directly, instead of asking google to "talk to X service". It also cuts out IFTTT from the loop. You go from GH to google server then back to your HASS server. If you have a Nest camera or doorbell, follow the instructions provided in the box and app. Basically as jt121, I've already had POE IP cameras before Nest existed...and honestly they are better than Nest cams for my outdoor purposes. This is just a solution for people without Nest cams that have access to an mjpg stream. For the 8 cameras I have, it would cost me $1600 to get a Nest Cam.

Brett has also lectured on cameras and photography at major universities and institutions around the world. @mdunning - there are a couple of issues with using the Synology Surveillance software. First is licensing cost - it's more expensive than the Reolink NVR!
